Sheryl O’Gorman. MFA
I have recently taken up my old love of Illustration and Children's book writing again. It seems to have taken over somewhat from my more serious artwork. I will post more about that in my blog and images of the illustrations.
Artist Statement; regarding my work in the Fine Art field
I began my artistic career with representational paintings and drawings, however after many successful years in this genre I became dissatisfied with the predictability of making recognisable likenesses and sought a way to express more than what was immediately obvious. Abstract allowed me, in the process of making each artwork, to go on a journey of exploration; each action inspiring the next, the destination unknown until arrival. While I still occasionally use images in my work, I find myself obscuring them in the hope of invoking the viewers own insight, thus allowing the viewer to discover their own meaning in the work.
My fascination with light is the motivation for using reflective surfaces; light is dynamic, causing the painting to respond to the viewer’s presence with an endlessly renewed series of reflections.
